By Design offers over 20 years expertise of art direction and graphic
design of single to multi-color printing projects such as direct mail, ads,
brochures and more to individuals, corporations, and small businesses.

In 2004 as part of By Design, Rachel began licensing her photographic
art to manufacturers and publishers for use on greeting cards, puzzles, gift
bags, tabletop, partyware, textiles, and more. Images can be altered to fit a
product, such as repeating tiles for giftwrap. Applying art to fit a product
is referred to as Surface Design and it requires strong compositional skills,
as well as photographic excellence. As a result Rachel’s talents fuel the
beauty of her designs, making them very compatible with many products.

Her work often demonstrates a studio-like quality, expressed with dramatic
lighting and vivid colors that underscore their essence. Photoshop filters
are often used to create a more artistic and ethereal appeal, and enhance the
clarity of larger format options. With her special blend of image intimacy
and artistic skills, Rachel’s work will immerse you into a mix of detail and

Ciardella Design Firm

In addition to providing comprehensive art direction and design,
Rachel's organizational talents were a big contribution to this small San
Mateo design firm. She upgraded their job-flow production and created
better quality control processes, raising the firm's bottom-line 200%.

Tycer · Fultz · Bellack Advertising

This was a very creative environment that instilled valuable marketing
sensibility and conceptual messaging. In this fast-paced environment,
Rachel developed additional media and print production expertise. She
gained a strong appreciation for vendors' assistance; and so when she
finally met a very knowledgeable, charming and handsome pre-press
foreman Michael Harris, she did the smart thing and married him.

Learning Magazine

This was Rachel's first job and it formed the foundation of her design
and print production expertise. After only a year, she became production
manager, responsible for the magazine's monthly production, ad place-
ments, and design for all in-house ads and literature.

San Jose State University graduate (magna cum laude) with B.S. degree
